It’s essential for seniors to protect their skin as they age because skin irritation and dryness can lead to eczema or infections if left untreated.
Here a few skincare tips for aging skin:
Use gentle cleansers, soaps, and detergents.
Many skin cleansing products can strip the skin of moisture and needed oils. Using cleansers, soaps, and detergents that are not harsh or dry out the skin, are ideal for people in their 60’s. Using products with holistic ingredients can also help maintain healthy aging skin.
Protect your skin from the sun and heat.
Sun damage and heat to the skin can worsen and aggravate skin dryness. This can be caused by direct sunlight at peak hours, central heating or space heaters, and hot baths and showers. Using sunscreen, moisturizers, humidifiers, and protective clothing in harsh weather conditions can help combat skin dryness.
Have Proper nutrition & hydration.
Eating foods that are high in vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals can promote healthier feeling skin. Adding vegetables like red bell peppers, spinach, carrots, and berries to your diet regularly along with drinking lots of water can improve the appearance of skin, cleanse the body of toxins, and help wounds heal faster.
